The bare bones of the song that would turn out to be "Brandy" were actually laid down in December 1991 /Jan of 1992 around the same days as "No Takers" and "Search and Destroy"...there were other unreleased songs written and recorded in there too ...and also a complete version of Dusty Springfield's " You don't have to say you Love Me"....its a killer version and it is completely mixed !!!!!!!!!!...I have never heard it in 13 years ! As it is located somewhere on master tapes......It's like David Bowie covering it !! I'M SERIOUS !--ANYWAY....BACK TO 'BRANDY'.....THIS CRAZY LITTLE 'MEGA-HIT' SONG.....Everybody around the South Bay knows all too well.........! This song (and several other g.e songs) were actually played by that band I formed in 1998 with my brother and the Late Mike Rimmey ! As many know and take delight in...I was famously thrown out of the band....."For being a 'dick',,....or something like that........but let me clear up a matter or two......I would drive like 200 miles just to rehearse with these guys ! ...and then I was going to 'move' from San Diego back to Torrance ! 'just' to jam with 'them'...I thought we were 'that good"....the band was called "Svengali"....after they threw me out...they changed the name of the band to "Both Ends Burning" or somethin' like that...and broke up.......it was a move right up there with Ted's.......I think about myself and it is sad...the way I am misunderstood and all....and HOW WE COULD ALL BE maybe RICH RIGHT NOW...IF THESE WEIRDLY COMPETITIVE SOUTH BAY PEOPLE....WOULD JUST SUPPORT ME AND HELP ME MORE...and grow a little love in their mean hearts....as I have done for others........'No...I don't think Sharks a dick..or "mean' to people as they say........nothing could be more quite the contrary !...I think People just judge people by things like they are short and have a high squeaky voice and a crooked lazy eye thats gross to look at or a mole.,...AND THATS REALLY WHAT ALOT OF THIS IS ALL ABOUT..........ME? I don't give a shit if people are tall, fat , pimpled or whuddever....ITS PLAIN TO SEE SHARK LOVES ALL PEOPLE .....AND EVEN IF I REALLY DID 'JUDGE' THEM....I DON'T THINK ANYONE WOULD GIVE A SHIT ANYWAY CAUSE...PEOPLE IGNORE ME...MAINLY...BEST THEY CAN............BUT THEY SECRETLY LIKE TO LISTEN TO G.E.!!..AND THATS THE PART THAT HAS ME TICKLED PINK !.....Brandy is QUITE a song INDEED!!...! A tight 3 and a half minute G.E gem to be put in a bottle and corked like good wine.....and it always serves up well...and doesn't let down....the lyrics are jumbled..its sorta my ode to kurt cobain and Courtney....they had just gotten married and all and that was always on my mind...me being 27 at the time and no sign of marriage or love ever near IN THAT SUMMER OF 92'...not even bothering me much..the irony.....truth be known...this really is "probobly the best g.e song" --period........sang in a ridiculous British accent (BEFORE ANYONE HEARD A' GREEN DAY)...IT MEANDERS ALONG LIKE MORRISEY OR THE CURE MORE THAN A GRUNGEY OR Garage METALLISH BAND....it just has this huge chorus that really works !..THIS SONG IS DEFINITELY BOTH A BIZARRE EXPERIMENT GONE TERRIBLY RIGHT........AND IT ALSO SADLY HINTS AT WHAT MAY HAVE come for the future if G.e had we gotten back together in say 94 or 95'..........the vocals were added long after the song itself was recorded in 91'....around the same day as "Ripping Reason's" vocal tracks.....IT IS WELL PLAYED AND FABULOUSLY RECORDED........ITS A SONG RIGHT OUT OF THE 80'S BUT MADE FOR 90'S FM RADIO ALL THE WAY............IF ALL THOSE PEOPLE in the music industry and in my own family and community didn't hate Clark Hagins so much...........who knows the money this thing could have made - like a FRICKIN' cash register...!!!......that said...IT HAS F****ING SOUL ! ....Circles around the 90's alt scene !.....this one breaks my heart the most....cause I know and still know; BRANDY IS THE G.E HIT !!!!!!!!!!!!......NOTE; THE NAME IS REALLY FROM 1992 !...ITS NOT NAMED AFTER BRANDY OR LISA DONATZ....AS SUGGESTED AROUND THE SOUTH BAY............LIKE THE SHARK PROFIT I WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE; I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THEM THEN !!!...BILLY KRODEL CAME UP WITH THE NAME OF THIS SONG !......He was telling me in the studio he was up all night the other night "Drinking Brandy"...
